Hi,
What are US forces doing in Iraq now when their aim of capturing Saddam Hussein is done is not clear. US went to Iraq on the basis of some WMD but after searching all the corners of Iraq they were still unable to find any single WMD.
The real reason for US going to Iraq was oil. They know there were no WMD. Infact Weapon of Mass Destruction like Atom Bombs, Hydrogen Bombs, guns etc. are there in USA so I think it is USA which should be attacked by all other countries.
This talk of the level of degradation of Iraq'a military reminds me of a bit of reporting that I read in the British literary magazine/journal Granta. (It's in the most recent issue [93, God's Own Countries])
The article, called "A Prisoner of the Holy War," documents the story of an Iraqi soldier who was a POW in Iran for 20 years. He was captured during the Iran-Iraq war and released just as the current war was starting.
As someone who was largely cut off from his country, it is interesting to note the differences he saw between Iraq a few decades ago, with at least the possibility of a legitimate economic future, and Iraq as it was just before we invaded in 2003, very much struggling under sanctions.
And also in Detroit Michigan, Peace Action will hold a national conference/training next month:

JNP, thanks very much for the heads up re the Granta article. And Professor Cole, the link to warpost is most interesting.
Lt. Ehren Watada is confined to barracks pending court martial for his refusal to obey orders to report to Iraq. The Lieutenant refuses to fight in an illegal war.
has been established to support the Lieutenant in his brave action.
