fwiw, After cries of “n'oubliez jamais!” immediately following the attacks of "9/11", I find it a strange quirk of history that the Americans have indeed: not only forgotten "9/11", but also appear to be in complete denial of the abject failure of "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan.
The historical irony, imho ~ is that at present the Bush Administration and U.S. Military speak of “remaining in IRAQ ‘until the job is done’.” Yet, we would be hard-pressed to find anyone, civilian or military, who could definitively tell us just what "the job" = The Mission in IRAQ, is. otoh, Here is this clearly unfinished business of al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, "9/11" et al ~ and so I wonder, in all seriousness: WTH is our raison d'ętre ‘Afghanistan’, and why have the Americans forgotten the real cause of 9/11, for the now clearly bogus casus belli of IRAQ?
(questions like this = why Historians get paid the big bucks :)
