McCain: Deregulate Health Care just Like Banking!
H t Josh Marshall:
John McCain: "Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation."

This is a brilliant idea. Have as many health insurers and providers competing with each other as possible. The only way for them to generate the requisite profitability is to cut back on the quality and breadth of services they offer. The model stinks, but it's not at all surprising that McCain's an advocate.
Look on the bright side. Palin-McCain win and w/in four years we'll have socialized medicine too!
Associated Press => Rescue plan seeks $700B
“the plan. . . would give the Treasury secretary [Mr. Paulson] broad power to buy and sell the mortgage-related investments without any additional involvement by lawmakers...”
“While the proposal contains no requirement that the government receive anything from banks in return for unloading their bad assets, it would allow the Treasury Department to designate financial institutions as "agents of the government," and mandate that they perform any "reasonable duties" that might entail.”
. . .are you kidding me? Treasury becomes a Unitary Executive?
imho, this is no longer just a financial crisis issue; it has become a Constitutional crisis. We are losing: the freedom to fail.
PAULSON: "I am convinced that this bold approach will cost American families far less than the alternative -- a continuing series of financial institution failures and frozen credit markets..."

So, what's next? e.g., Wal-Mart / Costco et al BigBoxes become defacto "State Store" consumption centers, apparent, resembling Eastern Europe circa ~1955; "brand choices" for non-discretionary staples disappear ~ or "choice" becomes an illusion : “For more enjoyment and greater efficiency, consumption is being standardized.” The Global Malaise legacy wrought by the Bush/Cheney pillage of Americanism persists for one or more decades; ie., the Baby Boom generation just went Bust.
The WAR ECONOMY raison d'ętre becomes a perverse, "economic security necessity" media narrative propaganda fostered upon the Western masses: dystopia.
