A collective syndrom is the only way I can explain to myself this sad situation.

I beleive indoctrination plays a part here as well and not just the totally mad reality.

This is really beyond words.

As many have mentioned here in comments, his mother, Barbara Frum, was an intelligent and fair journalist.

Stephen Harper, the prime minister of Canada, was equating opposition to Israeli government policy to anti-Semitism as far back as 2008.

Harper also said, "Some of the criticism brewing in Canada against the state of Israel, including from some members of Parliament, is similar to the attitude of Nazi Germany in the Second World War, Prime Minister Stephen Harper warned yesterday.

"I guess my fear is what I see happening in some circles is (an) anti-Israeli sentiment, really just as a thinly disguised veil for good old-fashioned anti-Semitism, which I think is completely unacceptable," Harper said in an interview with CJAD radio.

Stephen Harper appointed David Frum's sister, Linda, to the Canadian Senate in 2009.

"On August 27, 2009 she was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. She has a Conservative affliliation and represents Ontario. She serves on the Banking, Trade and Commerce Committee and the Transport and Communications Committee."

I hadn't heard about her "bestselling author" career. To laud her for writing a book about the amenities of Canadian universities is like giving her an award for writing a phone book.

Stockwell Day, fundamentalist Christian and then-Foreign Minister for Canada, signed a Public Security Agreement which ties Canada to protecting Israel no matter what it does. He first denied then confirmed that such an agreement existed.

Peter Kent, Conservative cabinet minister for Harper's regime in a recent interview:

Junior Foreign Affairs minister Peter Kent is suggesting Canada would rush to Israel's defence in a military confrontation, telling a Toronto publication that “an attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada.”

But he later declined to say whether this means that Canada would automatically declare war on an aggressor attacking Israel.

Do the rest of us get to have a say in any of this? I guess not.

He was not necessarily including himself as a US citizen. He was more likely speaking as a North American nationalist. Frum, like Harper, is a North American nationalist. They see the people of North America (Canada and the USA) as a single nation whose national territory is divided into two sovereign states (analogous to the status of Germany and Austria in the eyes of German nationalists). In addition, as nationalists, they believe that their nation – the North Americans – is morally superior to others and is in an unjustly and dangerously weak position vis-a-vis others. That is how they rationalize their aggressive militarism in their own minds. To North American nationalists (sometimes called "Continentalists" in Canada), the 9/11 attack was an attack on the North American people just as much as it was an attack on the USA. So for Canadians like Frum and Harper it makes perfect sense to say that "we" were attacked on that day.

Then, he would be (and still is) welcomed back by the CBC's various hosts and producers as a "Canadian". I'm sure that this has happened at least once since 2007. Either way, he's never confronted over his role in fomenting illegal wars resulting in civilian deaths by the hundreds of thousands as Prof. Cole has confronted him here.

That said, please don't send him back. Perhaps you can use him to make Celine Dion seem a little less dreadful, but I'm not sure.
