What would happen if the Palestinians simply surrendered? If they closed down the PA and said ‘Okay we give up, we’re a conquered people, we surrender and submit to being citizens of the new, united, Greater Israel’ then they could hardly find themselves in a worse situation than now. It would also undermine the Israeli abdication of any responsibility for the people under their power.
As such a simple proposal it is probably highly flawed, but it is a tactic which could at least shake up the current congealed facts on the ground.
Haven’t seen this anywhere else and the source is not the most unbiased, but it seems McMaster is getting a similar message out – US good, Iran bad, Iraq should do as it’s told: http://www.rudaw.net/english/kurdistan/241020175
Even if the JCPOA were abandoned by all parties, Iran is still party to the NPT. Yet we continue to hear 'they'll have the bomb in 10 years' regularly in the Mainstream media. Frustrating, but thanks Prof Cole for repeatedly trying to set the record straight.
Occam's razor says this is just a Punch & Judy show to help defuse some unfortunate and almost-unprecedented recent anti-Saudi sentiment. There is no way this would have received so many votes if it was likely to actually impact the Saudis (or Israel). Don’t forget that most of the same people recently voted to give megatons of weaponry to support the Yemeni apocalypse, none of them are really anti-Saudi – just cheap kabuki actors.
“And we should back that force up all the way through – not just in taking the fight to the enemy, but in helping them to form a stable, moderate government… It’s a tough, complicated diplomatic and military proposition, even more so than the current situation in Iraq. But it can be done.”
Can anybody really take this seriously? In 2003 you took a backwards, repressive but otherwise generally stable, moderately free and relatively boring country, and you turned it into a murderous chaotic nightmare of epic proportions - the Iraqi army was not the first to lose a city to islamists.
But now these clowns think they can take a country which is already a murderous chaotic nightmare, destroy the only force of order still extant, but somehow it'll magically resolve into a happy United States in Iraq and the Levant?
Perhaps the opinions of these crusty old men is only the result of a lack of empathy. Perhaps he should be asked how happy he would be in the unfortunate circumstance of having to raise the child of his wife's rapist? May provoke a pause for thought.
