.Disarming which side? Would YOU disarm? Do you trust "pinpoint" Israel to exercise restraint? The Gazans can look to a future like that of the Australian aboriginals, swept by the need for Lebensraum of the chosen tribes.
John, you got that right. The U.S. got land from conquest of Indian and Mexican land. It even took the Philippines and Cuba. War is in their genes. No wonder German ancestry is dominant in the US.
Sorry, My Comment. That is a very sanitized view. Apartheid came down because it became impossible to hold Namibia. That made it necessary to negotiate. Southern Lebanon is not occupied by Israel because Hezbollah became too tough a nut to crack. Israel is not interested in a deal with the Palestinians because the military imbalance is extremely favourable to their military. Americans have a lot more sympathy for Abbas than for Nasrallah, but the latter is free because he has the military capacity. Sad to say, but honestly...
Hi Joe, Political rights are of course not cosmetic. But even those where achieved after much bloodshed. Mandela himself treated Fidel Castro to a hero's welcome and a state banquet: appreciating "...Cuba's selfless support for the struggle to free all of South Africa's people...". Voting is great, but healthcare and long life expectancy would have been even more valuable to Mandela. He had to accept very tough terms, such as minimal land reform. He certainly had Cuba as his political model.
Bill, maybe you do not have a problem. Your views are mainstream. But ask Ms. Poitras how hard it is for her to catch a plane. There are blacklists out there limiting employment opportunities for dissenters. It is OK to differ with the POTUS and his ilk, right?
This is good news. Great to see sensible Israelis.

boomer, the US refused because at that time the influence of AIPAC et al was far less than it is today.
