The US strategy is to send Qaddafi a carrot message and stick message.
Carrot message (in private): If you leave Libya you keep your gold and your life.
Stick message: If you do not leave Libya we eventually will find you and kill you.
The problem is that Qaddafi has spent decades avoiding assasination attempts, is very skilled at being anywhere but the wrong place at the wrong time and may actually enjoy the game.
I recall the interesting 2001 Jim Carrey film "The Majestic" which was a semi-fictional look into the Joseph McCarthy era in the early 1950s.
One character commented that the Constitution was nothing more than a piece of paper with writing on it and signatures at the bottom, in other words a contract.
He went on to state that all contracts are subject to renegotiation, and that the McCarthy people were the people doing the renegotiating.
Is it not clear that this is the view of the Constitution held by the great majority of our elected Federal officials (with Kucinich and Paul shining exceptions)?
So dear readers, if you do not like the outcome of the renegotiations, fire the current negotiators and get new ones.
Hopefully the new ones will not sell you out as did this group.
The California skew is attributable in large part to the white boy/Asian girl (esp. Filipina girl) phenomenon which exploded onto the stage of love a decade or two ago.
In the late '80s and early '90s this was refered to as "liking rice" and this was a somewhat neutral, not insulting expression. In fact, on many CA colege/university campuses capturing an Asian girl was something of a symbol of prowess and/or status for young men. One must admit that the women are often quite lovely.
(I have no idea what goes on now in the affairs of the heart among the 18-25 crowd in CA.)
The SC Resolutions regarding Iraq never ever contained the "all necessary means" language traditionally required to permit any state to use force against another state. Bush went ahead with his conquest anyway.
I thought China and Russia had learned from this that you cannot open the door even a crack or the USA will immediately begin to move ahead with its "regime change" march.
I guess not. Fool me once.
So now, in support of "protecting civilians" in Libya the USA/UK/France are marching ahead with regime change through force.
Sort of a "fool me twice" moment for China and Russia.
To which they properly respond, "never again."
Again, one simply cannot open the door to force by any measure if the USA is involved in any way whatsoever.
We have a six-reactor complex in which four of the reactor complexes suffered explosions (two simply "blew up," on live television no less). Three suffered some measure of meltdown. Two are suffering leakages from locations yet to be determined. Few of the close radiation monitors still operate. The complete picture of the extent of the damage is yet to be determined. The environment has been heavily contaminated.
Throughout the entire sorry episode the various layers of government (not to mention the operator itself) have worked to obscure the extent of this catastrophic event from all of us.
First, last and always prevent fear. If citizens know the truth they might just act in ways that cause the GDP to fall.
The God concept in this sorry period of human history is "growth" at any cost.

He may wery well win this.

Agree completely with DB.

Full stop.
Jeeeeez.....

Maher is an athiest. He views anyone who is "in" a religion with a mix of sympathy and contempt, the way many view a drunk passed out in an alley.
He probably thinks of someone seeking to find a faith as a person actively trying to go insane.
In this he is at odds with the vast majority of his fellow human beings.
