Nice topic, but i respectfully disagree with a lot of the points raised in this article. I think there is an over emphasis on the part that the sunnis played in Maliki's demise. Had the shiites stuck with Maliki, he would still be in power.
Maliki's biggest mistakes in my opinion are:
1. Bringing the Baathists back into Government institutions, thus alienating the Shiite bureaucracy.
2. Turned a blind eye to the ISIS advance towards Mosul, which destroyed all confidence in him.
3. Ignored Grand Ayatollah Sistanis instructions. If you alienate your power base, you're left with nothing.
4. Giving sensitive Government to his relatives and in effect trying to create his own dynasty.
Maliki's strategic goal was to centralise power after the collapse of the state in 2003. All Dawa members worked towards that goal, but Maliki's approach/technique cost him his job. He made too many enemies.

Nice article. The simple answer in my humble opinion is no. Iran will replace the US in Iraq and beyond.
