Is that really racist? It's stupid, yes, but he's playing an Indian, so he's wearing make up. Is it inherently racist to play someone from an ethnic group you don't belong to? To me, racism is saying that your group is better than another group or groups. I don't see that this ad even criticizes Indians, or necessarily even the fake Bollywood producer. Why is he portraying a Bollywood producer? I have no idea. Why is he portraying a hippie in one of the other ads? Again, no idea, except to be funny (debatable) and noticed. But does that make this racist? I think that does disservice to the victims of real racism, of which there have been and continue to be millions.
What exactly is Larijani saying about Iran's nuclear program? He says that the IAEA has resolved ambiguities, but the most recent statements out of the IAEA seem to suggest they are pursuing a weapon (or at least I think that has been the USG's spin on it). His subsequent comments that the nuclear program would be a great leap forward also sound like confirmation of a weapons program (a US claim of which I have long been quite skeptical). So, what do you think he's telling us here?
I think you give him too much credit. To the extent he has a conscience, I doubt it would be troubled by something like this. I imagine his big money owners, particularly in the energy bidness have convinced him that climate change is a hoax.
Most of what the Energy Dept. does is mind the nation's stockpile of nuclear weapons and related research labs. A relatively small part of the budget goes to research into alternative energy technologies, although that does seem to be a major interest of Sec. Chu. It seems unlikely that Perry knows any of this. It just makes good fodder for conservative voters because Carter created the Energy Dept. and OBVIOUSLY the government has no business mucking around in the energy industry's business. So off with their heads!
By the way, the debate was in Michigan, not Florida.
