Given the far reach of the Israelis, most people are too intimidated to speak out against the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. This horrendous situation has gone on long enough.
My first awareness of this militarization of local police forces was after the Boston Marathon bombing. Just seeing the Boston police all decked out in camouflage with rifles and tanks sent chills up and down my spine. Thank you for this article. Hopefully, more people will become aware of the problem and try to do something to return the police to community policing.
Thank you for your important work on Informed Comment. Actually, although I liked the old format, this new one is starting to grow on me. It's good to be able to see all the different articles at once.
I have tried for two days to make a donation, and the system will not accept my MasterCard number. I just want Prof. Cole to know that I would like to make a donation online.
It's way too late for a "just settlement." The Israelis have virtually taken over the entire West Bank and have no intention of ceding even one square foot of it.
Who has the courage to leave a heartfelt message to this column? Personally, I'm now terrified of ever speaking my mind or trying to get to the truth of our government's illegal actions.
Bush also was in possession of a memo that specifically warned about an upcoming attack, that would involve planes and buildings. W was too busy at the time wacking the bushes in Texas.
Forget about sentencing Ronald Reagan...why can't we sentence people that are still alive? It's atrocious that George W. Bush still walks the earth a free man.
Thank you for your informative article on the current state-of-affairs in Israel. The following quote is of some concern to me, however:
"For the ultra-nationalists of Yisrael Beiteinu and The Jewish Home, the solution to the Palestinian problem is to “transfer” Palestinians from their homes to create a more Palestinian-“rein” Israel."
Did you mean Israeli-"rein" Israel? I believe "rein" means "pure."
In any event the absolute criminality of transferring Palestinians from their homes needs to be brought to the world's attention.
How sad, but expected, to learn that Secretary Clinton is headed to Jerusalem and will meet with Netanyahu and Abbas, but not Hamas. The U.S.A. is backing the wrong horse, once again, and earning the condemnation of the international community. Will this ever stop?
Sinclair Lewis more or less predicted this military empowerment in his 1935 book "It Can't Happen Here." Very scary for all of us civilians.
The militarization of police duties seems to have arrived also, i.e. the battle fatigues and weaponry of the police who broke up the OWS encampments, especially in L.A. 1,400 police to evict 200 people? We are in deep, deep trouble in this country.
How does one create an online petition so that we can let the Congress know how many people support an investigation into this outrage against Prof. Cole?
The Palestinian situation continues to worsen every day. What an inhumane world we live in, that these atrocities have been going on for so many years and yet no country will step in to try to stop the Israelis from their war crimes against the Palestinians. Why does the UN only use words? Some action would be welcome. Why are the politicians in this country so unwilling to face up to what's going on? Is campaign funding THAT IMPORTANT that our elected officials will not step forward and take some action to end the occupation? Very discouraging, frustrating, unfair and infuriating.

Thanks for the Monty Python laugh! So true.

The article is about the media coverage in Israel.
As always, it's a pleasure to be able to donate! Thank you for your excellent reporting.

Prof. Cole
The brutal, horrible truth. I hope you have some good people watching your back.

Ingenious, Prof. Cole.

Thank you, Prof. Cole. You look like you're in your element! Glad you had a good time.

Losing Mr. Shadid at such a young age is a great loss for all of us who care about the Middle East. He must have suffered an awful death.
This is truly sickening. It was a sad day when the USA sold our country to the Israelis.

Where did Iraq get $10 billion to give to Syria?

Thank you for pointing out the REAL reasons we should not be sorry to see AW vacate his House seat.
You've got the whole issue bassackwards.
