Surely the same argument can be made about Iran, no? Isn't it fair to say that Iran is currently exerting more political influence to "shoehorn its prefered candidates" into office than the US is?
Nasr did not tweet "the same thing" that Maliki said. Maliki offered a nuanced praise of Fadhlallah's contribution to Shi'a religious and political discourse. Nasr stated she respected him as one of "Hizballah's giants". Nasr seems to have missed the point that the entire reason Fadhlallah was widely respected in the arab world and beyond was precisely because he wasn't "one of Hizballah's giants".
That said, I agree that firing her on those grounds was silly and sets a dangerous precedent. The real take away from this is that Twitter is stupid and shouldn't be used for anything more complex than 'LOL at Lindsey Lohan', or things of that nature
"I’ve often thought that Arabs are always worrying about nefarious plots against them by Americans, but then they voluntarily smoke American cigarettes like chimneys and put themselves in early graves."
I literally can't count the number of iterations of this conversation I've had with Syrian cab drivers
him-"smoke?"
me "no thanks"
him "you don't smoke? why not?"
me "it kills you"
him "no it doesnt. that's a lie. And, if it does it's because it's an American plot to kill Arabs"

Mr. Cole,

Nasr stated she respected him as one of "Hizballah's giants". The 9 activists killed last Monday were shot 30 Times
When using lethal force in close quarters ist's standard operating procedure to shoot targets multiple times to ensure they're actually dead.
I agree that this was a tactical and strategic blunder on Israel's part, but shooting 9 people 30 times is a product of training, not venting.
