My first thought, looking at the map, was: "Cool, i still get to surf in warm water!"
But i do agree with most of the comments. An accurate census map, including topography would put the overall picture into stunning and shocking reality. The 1% live on the high ground, on the coast line, on the river views, on small patches of very expensive land. For example, much of the forested lands in the US are under private corporate ownership. Enormous tracts of ranch land, throughout most of the western half of the country are privately owned. Corporate farms compose massive chunks of farmland.
Wow, what a comment thread. Might i add, that after: the illegal invasion of a country, the institution of torture and rendition, the advocation of shock & awe with extreme prejudice, imprisonment of hundreds of innocents, and a constant diet of violent rhetoric--the citizenry of the US is finally turning on itself. I seem to recall a nearly year-long seminar i took in grad school (decades ago) on the history of European fascism in the first half of the 20th century. Violent rhetoric, spewed by the leadership, inspired and motivated vicious gangs --composed of loners and the mentally imbalanced--to attack and kill a vast array of folks. That led to more and more citizens involved in the violence and the formalization of the gangs. Eventually they too had to turn on themselves.
My question: What do you expect the US to do, should Israel begin a major war against the Palestinians and their supporters in Lebanon? Given the statement by Cantor, the GOP seems nearly hellbent for Israel to attack the north and Gaza.
While the image is indeed quite lovely, there are some shocking political realities laid bare. First and foremost is the huge burst in carbon emissions needed to power all of the lights that light the Nile as well as Luxor, the Pyramids, Cairo, and Alexandria. Then there is the glaring and harsh lack of illumination throughout Gaza, while Israel is beaming brightly. The whole is a tragic beauty for me.
Somewhere in my files i have a clipping from the LATimes, dated in 1961, mentioning a press release from Fort Ord, CA, that the US military was sending training and logistical support personnel to Vietnam to help the South Vietnamese army. All of the US wars seem to start and rundown with training and logistical support personnel in the field.
Obama played it safe, and so did Stewart. He must have been afraid to mention: the failure of single payer health care, consistent state secrets filings, a Wall Street economic team, allowing assassinations, and so forth.
I think i am fairly certain that none of the US airplane terror incidents in the last decade included "people dressed a Muslim" (whatever that really means). And, for the most part, only devout believers in Islam ask that their females dress in appropriate attire (hijab, burka, etc.), then it would only be the female Muslims that would make Mr. Williams nervous. Again, as yet, there have been no female terrorists aboard airplanes in the US.
Interestingly, she claimed she looked into Buddhism, for which i can find no analog that is fundamentalist (Zen?). And i suspect that if she dabbled in Krishna, she also tried TM. Paganism is perhaps as far off the mainstream she went; it would have been nice if she put time into Jainism for example. Her religious adventures are indicative of her shallowness, skimming through a comparative curriculum (as she did in college) really isn't engaging in, or investing oneself in, any religion.

I am most confident that the space-lizard alien & UFO people have a scenario for this that portends something drastic and horrific.
