Professor Cole, following you for some years now and always appreciative of your ability to convey, I have never enjoyed one of your postings more than this. It is positively spot on and brilliant. Where I have oft referred to Netanyahu as the world's most disingenuous man, SOB works well too. Clearly, his re-election and the referendum he sees it as have major trouble written all over it for the U.S. Hoping for his defeat and a more reasoned voice replacing his, to his re-election and latest pronouncements, I now say good. Maybe now, Americans will finally wake up and finally see what a festering boil this man and his cohorts are, literally dragging America into constant, escalating and untenuous moral dilemma. Allies do not do that, but this Israeli leader has never been an "ally."
Wonderful. The insults continue. His speech before Congress was not enough? Now he doubles down assailing a stated U.S. policy goal in place since Clinton, and the foundation of all peace talks for more than 20 years? Nentanyahu has essentially declared war on the Palestinian people, not to mention 20% of Israel's own population, by an all but public endorsement of apartheid and the Palestinian diaspora. Will the U.S. stand by this nonsense, paying for every bullet the Israeli's use? This hardly serves our interest. Netanyahu and his cronies are one of the best recruitment tools used by terrorist in the M.E, his reelection just gave them their booster shot.
Betraying the country may be an overstatement, but there letter is an unprecedented event, hardly consistent with their sworn oaths to uphold the Constitution, including what it says about the responsibilities of Congress, the responsibilities of the President and the separation of powers. Some in the GOP are so stridently opposed to anything this President is doing that they are willing to betray their Oath of Office and at the very least, their service owed their countrymen. Until the fruit of negotiations are known, it is just talking, not appeasement, and the last time I talked to people in uniform, they all preferred talking to killing. Of course that point continues to be lost especially on so many members of the GOP who have never been in uniform and nothing more than pay lip service to those that have and still are. Just when we think we can not possibly become more disapproving of Congress, they give us additional reason to reach new levels of bile fueled, wrenching disgust.
One can understand that it now seems paradoxical that U.S? actions appear or at least server the purposes of Assad. That was inevitable as now, finally likely to seriously arm and train the Free Syrians will serve our purposes. All of which takes us back to Obama's speech yesterday where he said what has always been known, namely that sometimes working with dictators and human rights violators is in the interest of the U.S. What has clearly never served our interest since WWII has been the half-assed wars and attempts at nation building. These may boost some smucks career, but does nothing to the advantage of ordinary Americans. Let the Syrians worry about Assad just as we let the Libyans deal with Gaddafi, Egyptians with Hosan Mubarach, etc. There was a time when our FP was to stay in touch with opposition groups, not employ and compromise them.
It is an eye opener, not to mention disappointment, when the blame for the President's credibility can be laid at his own feet and not just right wing crackpots.
Let me try to understand: for decades steal Palestinian land. Turn land over to Israeli developers to construct vast quantities of housing to be very profitably sold. Then Israel whines about corruption in the Palestinian Authority?
Who is to say that this is not consistent with what may truly be American policy? We promote democracy and inclusion but in some circles would seriously fret over the Brotherhood, and for good reason.

No. Only the names of the thieves will change.

Whatever the regime is in Cairo, it is encouraging to know it is supporting its Coptic citizens.
"Nipping in the bud?"

Those who have lived and traveled in the ME are aware how dangerous this is for these men. They are brave.
Have never cared for Mr. King who I have never seen contemplative and humble but always as a self righteous blustering blowhard.
About time
Then these trolls do what? Go to work for FOX?
