Well, Ancient Egypt's only attempt at monotheism failed utterly under the auspices of the famed Nefertiti's somewhat less famous husband -- he who made the sun god, whom he called Aten, the only god. Not only did the religious establishment go nuts -- the populace wasn't too sure they wouldn't be shat upon by thus unemployed other gods! Besides that, how is one seriously blaspheming if it is not even THEIR religion being sung about --- and placed in a time when it did not exist? Of course, Perry also annoyed neo-pagans, but hey one cannot expect a pop-singer to be a theologist/anthropologist/historian, eh?
