Why would they destroy what they built? ISIS is their tool against Shia. They paid for it. It serves their interests, and those of Israel and the US. ISIS exists because it is useful, it will remain powerful as Long as their masters want. ISIS exports oil and has access to first class military gear. No sanctions for them, just lip service.
John Pilger, atimes.com, get it right: Now we all know. Bombs. On schools and hospitals. The momentum for BDS will grow. Israel cannot be the ally of anyone that is decent.
The problem for Israel is that, as they keep engaging in uglier practices, they have to exert more and more pressure to ensure their narrative is dominant. There is a HUGE reservoir of people who are kept back by threats (to their careers), waiting to burst en masse. The behavior of Israel can end up costing their backers elsewhere, no one wants to be associated with carnage and dead children. This time it is not nice to support the Israeli assault. It is like Soweto in 1976, the apartheid regime seeding unknowingly its isolation.
ISIS is a monster built to hit Assad and Iran by the US and/or their Arab allies. It looks like it is not so easy to control. Or the goal is to destroy Iraq as a nation and a society.
We have to conclude wars are meant to hurt civilians. Not as "collateral", but as the main focus. No grand strategy ir tactics, no military prowess, just brute force and cruelty. You have to de-humanize your adversary to avoid remorse and your own de-humanization. A normal human being forced yo take part in that horror will develop mental disorders.
