Minor correction: Kalashnikov doesn't mean "machine gun" in the sense that most people would use the term. They are merely automatic rifles. They may be fully automatic, as opposed to the more-common (among civilians) semi-automatic, but they have fairly small magazines, are chambered for a regular rifle cartridge, and are what you would expect an infantryman to carry. Nothing more.
