Suggested reading: just published The Switch by Chris Goodall, Profile Books, London. Author is billed as "a world leading expert on new energy technologies". After reading, one can believe it. Book covers as complete a range of technologies and the current status of each (as of mid-2016) as I have seen. Highly recommended for understanding the status of the current epochal switch to renewable energy.
The Shah was 32 years old (not so young) in 1953, and was re-installed in power by the CIA and MI-6. The British and Soviets in 1941 had exiled his father for World War II reasons (fear of German influence), and put the young Shah in power at age 20 (with American assistance). Iran was a kind of constitutional monarchy with increasing parliamentary power during the first ten years of his reign.

I believe Salahuddin was a Kurd, a descendant of Yusuf bin Ayyub. Don't know if that helps in any way if thrown into the mix.
Sounds like now would be a great time for Sistani to emphasize publicly and loudly that liberated Sunnis should be treated as brothers. A nice fatwa could help.
The notion of "what is done to the least of them is done to me" (paraphrase, of course) seems to have been lost on the "righteous". A typical response of our species to perceived existential threats. I would recommend E. O. Wilson's latest book The Meaning of Human Existence for a change of pace to fundamentalists of any persuasion.
This is a post that should be included in American history texts to promote the development of critical thinking skills. Exceptionally well done.
(Some of the numbers might be cross-checked with Hugh Thomas' book on the North Atlantic Slave Trade. [Also, local conquerors seemed to be willing sellers to the European slavers -- relieved the maintenance burden and provided a source of cash -- a not uncommon universal practice throughout history]. However, the point is that it is not exact numbers and precise details that matter, but the accuracy of the overall thesis. Which is right on.)
Limbaugh and his ilk? "A good story if you can. A bad story if you must. But always a story." No surprises here. We are all bigoted in our own ways. But in my view, if it cuts flesh, it's no good.
Very well done.
Should be circulated to Congress, Senate, and Executive.
erratum: " . . . run on coal." s/b " . . . NOT run on coal."

Could Berzelius Windrip become Tayyip Erdogan?
Not impossible.

The rest of the comment on Iran stands, as does Falk's analysis of Kissinger's "accomplishments".
Brilliant.
