Syria uses chemical weapons because they are cheap and the regime is weak I doubt dying by being blown to bits by conventional weapons is a more pleasurable death than choking on sarin gas. Chemical weapons are banned because great powers can ensure their continued battle field military superiority isn't eroded by smaller nations using these weapons.
The YPG has no interest in taking let alone holding al-Raqqa. They will back off and let the SAA take the city. The SAA has little to no reason to fight the Kurds at this point.
There are some moderates but they are very few and howmuch ground they hold must be minimal because we never hear about it. A moderate faction helped the Kurds in their recent victory against Daesh. However whatever Assad has done it is no worse then what was done by our side in 2003. You can't call Assad genocidal without applying the same label to Bush.
Has Assad "attacked Sunnis as Sunnis"?
Though his army has loyal Alawite generals last I heard,
it is still is more then half Sunni, as it the population he controls.
The chronology video, glaringly doesn't include any Israeli killings of Palestinians. may 2014 israeli shooting of teenage palestinians should have been in there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaibEqx2m_k
The Anglo-American press reports on an internal NATO study (dated June 2013), which takes stock of Syrian public opinion. The study shows that 70% of Syrians support President Bashar al-Assad, 20% adopt a neutral position and 10% support the “rebels.”
Are you seriously suggesting that Kissenger & Dulles were
actually fighting tyranny by assistaing in the murder of 2,000,000 vietnamese or overthrowing democracies in indonesia, chile, brazil, turkey, greece just to name a few?
The America were (and are) trying to dominate the world in order to enable the exploitation of its peoples and resources for the benefit of their ruling classes. American leaders will say anything to justify their actions.
The soviets weren't any better but they never had the muscle.
If you want to read about this start with chomski...
Can't the Baathist regime in Syria be a beleagured victim of Western plotting and have sold Gadaffi down the river as well?
I haven't come across any lefties who are in love with the Ba'aths of Syria, however many are against illegal agression.
I think the top reason is the Kurds would never cooperate with an army of al qaeda being stationed in their territory.

Juan, al-Assad is a violent dictator who will kill his own people for strategic gain, but I don't understand why you keep calling him genocidal?
Tom Cotton is an idiot, however IS isn't about to disappear.

Hi Juan,
Please comment on the reports of this survey:

"It was Churchill (and Roosevelt) who were willing to work with the murdering bastard Stalin in order to defeat Hitler."

Chavez was looting the oil wealth of Venezuela and giving it to poor people in his country & many others : )
"Alan Dulles and Henry Kissinger believed that stopping Soviet imperialism was the most important world goal."
That's was their rhetoric, however in reality they were just competing for resources.
I don't think there is a nation in the world you could truly ally with if you were following an "ethical foreign policy"
though his support for gadaffi was sickening...
He was surrounded and needed allies...
