Well since Congress gives a great impression of having been bought hook line and sinker by AIPAC, and US presidents have never had the courage truly to sanction Israel, this is what I predict:
--Israel will continue its rinse-lather-repeat cycle of 'mowing the grass' in Gaza ever 2 years or so
--Insodoing it will become even more of a pariah state than it is now
--Life will be hell in Palestine and fraught in Israel
--The US will remain Israel's only friend and ally (a rather one-sided friendship, it must be said)
--US financial and military aid to Israel will continue, thus helping to increase the deficit and hasten the US's economic decline.
This should be plastered on every "liberal" and "progressive" blog out there, who continue to defend Obama, Clinton & Co whilst the US continues the ethically bankrupt (and self-defeating) neo-con policies of Bush and others.
Wishful thinking, I'm afraid, Prof Cole, that Obama The Spineless would ever do such a thing. A great idea otherwise.
At the rate things are going, the US is going to become a banana republic kleptocracy/plutocracy with an uneducated and underemployed population. And Israel will slide down the path of becoming ever more isolated and hated (except for its best buddies in the US). It just boggles the mind that the political and economic elites in either country really think these are desirable ends (even if they live rich and well-fed in their gated communities.
On a much happier note, the redesign is fantastic!
Many thanks to you, Juan for your excellent reporting on this latest Middle East tragedy. The US "response" (Israel: Jump! Obama, Clinton et al: How high, master?) is appalling and ultimately will serve it and indeed Israel poorly. What chance now of getting sanctions against Iran? (Not a good idea in any case.)
The Israeli "Megaphone" project is out in full force with their sudden expertise in international maritime law (the notorious dissembler Mark Regev has been on the BBC every day spouting it and other "justifications" for the attacks) and some so-called "liberal sites" (Daily Kos *cough*) have done their best not to offend AIPAC and other Jews for fear of losing money for the Democratic candidates.
To quote Pound's version of 'The Seafarer,' our born brothers, their buried bodies/Be an unlikely treasure hoard.
Shame on Obama and Clinton, shame on the Dems for selling out their country, and shame on all those who ignore or enable the suffering of the Palestinians.

All in all, not a very pretty picture.
Bravo!
