I wonder how many people from OK read Juan Cole? I have similar thoughts when I read The Progressive and listen to NPR and MSNBC. How do we redirect our "preaching to the choir" and start aiming this type of message at the the large demographic that is mindlessly following the RW-extremist? I am not sure what is the politically correct way to label this demographic but unless we can find a way for them to hear - understand - own - act on this type of message, we might as well all dig a cement barrack in the ground and crawl into it...the end of days is coming sooner than we expect. I can certainly say they are "reactionaries" unable to really think for themselves...and somehow the message from the other side is resonating with them. Our mission is to find a way to turn that around in our favor. How do we reach their ears with the right message that will resonate and then get them to act or at least start repeating it over and over like they do with the message from the other side. How do we make that paradigm, that works so well for the RWE, work for us (the good guys ;-)?
Oh that I could be a writer on Colbert's show!! What a job...go to work everyday to laugh your ass off at the experiment-gone-wrong that is our daily life! BTW..the only thing dumber than Gohmert is the constituents that elected him....and therein lies the rub.
And since this conversation went to end of days....I doubt any of you sat through the movie Melancholia...and too bad if so...as it had one of the best endings of any Hollywood movie with this quote....“This Earth is evil, we don’t need to grieve for it… nobody will miss it.”
JHill...yes you cannot talk about the economic disparity without bringing in the diverse demographic makeup of the two groups. Israel has had an important influx of highly educated people from most of the developed nations worldwide. They bring technological and financial savvy that those who grew up in Palestine don't have access to.
Also...one thing that is bothering me about the DNC and the pundits...when Hillary was running, her lack of international experience was a consistent main topic of discussion for why she was not qualified to be President. I have never heard that mentioned about Romney, even on the far left of MSNBC. Hopefully now we will hear that dialog...consistently! This man has the capacity to be WWIII in waiting!
There is a saying "be thoughtful of the people you congregate with, as you will become like the 5 people you spend the most time with". Also, "without a strong leader, groups tend to the lowest common demoninator". I think mass media rockets both of the cliches to a global perspective. We indeed have stoped evolving and are sinking to the lowest common demoninator as a nation and as a global society. It will take a leader with the spirit and charisma of Jesus Christ to pull us out of the gutter. Which in my therory is why humans are so quick to congregate around religious leaders of every persuasion. They want out of the gutter, just don't know how to navigate on their own.
