Dear Mr. Cole,
I have greatly appreciated reading your insight into moving forward our (Western) relations with the people of the Middle East.
Do you have any insight to offer relative to US/NATO and Russian posturing over events in the Middle East (especially Syria) vis-a-vis Missile sales and oil sales?
I have the found the following:
(1) Russia will be supplying >70% of oil and natural gas to Europe:
Columbia Univ: Russia & Europe’s Mutual Energy Dependence http://bit.ly/ev8Xyl -Excellent Pipeline Maps & Overview
(2) Russia has apparently sold or will be transferring long-range missiles to Syria to counter US/NATO Missile Shield:
Israeli spy sought details of Russian-Arab military deals en.rian.ru/russia/2011052… RT @ria_novosti Latest re: #Russia missile sales 2 #syria ?
The possible increase in the sales and deployment of a lot of missiles and anti-missiles in the region seems idiotic to me given that there are several new oil and natural gas pipelines being built by Russia to supply Europe and the instability in the region.
Sincere thanks for sharing your depth of knowledge about and insight into the "Arab Spring." Reading your article, why Libya 2011 is not like Iraq 2003, really helped my own understanding of events now unfolding in the Middle East. Further, I feel your insight is empowering many of us to see beyond the stale archetypes that have kept people of many rich and beautiful cultures apart from one another for too long. To a peace with dignity for all people.
