Excellent article. I read the WaPo op-ed and was extremely skeptical, but I didn't have the information available to challenge it immediately. Our opinion makers are getting desperate to find someone they can support in the region, and they are becoming addled.
Another scheme to pick the pockets of the developed world. The reason these countries have little impact on global warming is because they have tiny populations, not because they aren't using fossil fuels themselves.
I agree totally. Our Middle East policy is in even more of a shambles than it has been for years, and neither party seems to have a remotely constructive plan. Withdraw militarily and use diplomatic and economic incentives to damp down the conflict. If they don't work, we'll just have to live with it.
