I'd be interested in a list of things Congress could stop doing that would make the population healthier. First up, stop subsidizing corn. The subsidy results in very cheap high fructose corn syrup, which is used as a sweetener in an astonishing variety of foods, adding empty calories. Its the reason why fast food joints can price a 32 oz soda cheaper than a 16 oz bottle of water.
Hawaii's longer life expectency is probably due to its very high Asian population, a demographic that has lower rates of obesity and heart disease. Higher consumption of fish and lower consumption of red meat is a major factor in this.
