Shouldn't the last sentence in the third-to-last paragraph read:
The US overthrew the Iranian government in 1953 in part by putting a severe boycott on nationalized Iranian oil, and staging phony protests against the nationalist prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.
Great post. Very interesting and informative.
I wonder how much the financial analysis of this proposed transportation infrastructure relies on continued world use of oil and natural gas, something that you, Juan, argue persuasively is on the way out.
> Republican policies of deregulating the banks and other mortgage lenders
The legislation that allowed this was signed by Bill Clinton. I think you go too far in absolving corporate-funded and -controlled Democrats of the mess that our country is in.
Juan, your post seems to assume that the corporate tools in charge of the Democratic Party have any but self-interest. As long as the careers of sitting Democrats and their corporate handlers are ensured, they couldn't care less, and we shouldn't expect to see any activity in this direction.
I can't follow the paragraph that starts with:
The Da’wa (the Shiite “Islamic Call”) Party in Iraq is firmly allied with Iran. Trumpian, Saudi and Israeli hopes of delinking the two are forlorn.
Otherwise this is a great post.

Why is Saudi Arabia being so belligerent lately? Qatar, Yemen, now Lebanon. Or was I missing something all along?

Interesting post. A bit rough typographically, which doesn't really matter, except here:
> Erdogan’s bodyguards have been protesters on US soil
I think you "beaten" (not "been"). That word makes a difference.
> Republican policies of deregulating the banks and other mortgage lenders

How do you pronounce Manbij?
Great post today (July 31, 2017) regarding the Saudis inviting al-Sadr to meet. Thanks for providing news and info that MSM can't/won't.
