There are a couple of things in this analysis of which I have my reservations. Firstly I am not so sure if the U.S won't engage the Iranian navy. The U.S has been saying for some time now that "All options are on the table", so this could be a God sent opportunity to engage the Iranian vessels under the pretext of implementing the U.N's recently passed resolution. After all, on the eve of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the U.S official response was that this a matter between Iraq and Kuwait, and once the invasion of Kuwait was complete, the U.S quickly changed it's stance, and the rest is history.
Secondly, the experts mentioned a lot of "activity" in the south east of Yemen with Iranian small boats. This area is not under the control of the Houthis. The Houthis and the allied military are all to the northwest
and mid west of Yemen. AQAP is quite active in the eastern parts of Yemen, especially in the Hadarmout region of Yemen, so I'm not sure how those small boats can safely hand over the weapons to the Houthis from the southeastern coast of Yemen.
The Iranians are the ones leading the battle against the ISIL/ALQAEDA terrorists, and should be commended for it. The Shi'ite Muslims are the antitheses to the terrorists in the region, which many experts believe are helped and financed by the Saudi kingdom, a supposed U.S ally!
This fact holds true everywhere in the region. Take Yemen for example, where the Shi'ite Houthis pushed back the AQAP and captured large swathes of land previously being held by the AQAP. I fear that with the weakening of the Houthis through the coalition of the willing shored up by the Saudi kingdom, we will see a resurgence in the AQAP, and we're already witnessing signs of it, as it is pitted against the Houthis in the southern and north eastern Yemen. That is the reason in recent months news of an under the table co-operation between the U.S and the Houthis came to surface.
It is the same Saudi Kingdom which gave us 17 out of the 19 hijackers of 9/11. The last 28 pages of the 9/11 commission report, contained the Saudi link to the 9/11 which were classified by the Bush administration, and concealed from the American public, and the international community. It is the same Saudi kingdom which helped fund and arm the bloodthirsty monsters such as ISIL and Al Nusra Front, now active in the middle east. These Wahabi infused fanatics, sponsored by the Saudi kingdom have set the whole region on fire, and now control a territory the size France!
The bottom line is that it is high time that the civilized world dumped the Saudi kingdom, whose official state religion is Wahabism, the religion practiced by ALQAEDA and ISIL, and aligned itself with the Shi'ite Iran, whom the Wahabis consider to be heretics, worthy of being killed on the spot.
There is something common between Jews-Christians and the Shi'ite Muslims in the eyes of ALQAEDA/ISIL; all of them are infidels and deserve to die, preferably in front of a camera!
