Iraq faces Bitter Winter without enough Kerosene

Iraq will need half a billion liters of kerosene this winter, according to a Reuters report, but only has managed to accumulate a quarter of a billion. The US has the responsibility to ensure the welfare of the Iraqi people, and the Coalition Provisional Authority is making arrangements to import more kerosene, but many informed observers worry that there still won’t be enough.

An earlier plan for Syria to provide electricity to northern Iraq in return for petroleum was nixed when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon bombed Syria and the US declined to condemn the action, angering Damascus.
