Dear Prof. Cole,
I have read that the Tomahawk missiles that are destroying Libyan tanks are tipped with mildly radioactive Depleted Uranium (DU). As in Iraq, then, it looks like the US intervention is creating a potentially serious, even catastrophic health hazard for Libyans that will extend into the distant future. Would you please comment on this issue in your blog? I personally believe that even a worthwhile mission intended to avert massive casualties will be vitiated by the effects of radioactive pollution on subsequent generations (DU has a half-life of millions of years, I believe).
