Is our Media Screwing us on Climate the Way it Did on Iraq?

@Highr0ller once people start screwing do they give up voluntarily? If its been successful & $ enriching at the same time!?

  3. In a word, yes. Obviously a big factor is the short term self-interest of big business. But that being said, I am also taken aback by the sheer intensity of the anti-science irrationality in the US. How does one explain that ? Bad education, populist politics, emotional attachment to a particular kind of consumerism ? I find the craziness of it all hard to explain satisfactorily. Certainly, the media pretending there is a ‘debate’ on whether global warming is taking place, when amongst serious scientists there is not, is a very bizarre phenomenon.

  4. If all news media were run (supported) by small contributions from people interested in “the news” and there was no big-money ownership and also no big-money advertising, then “the news” would have a cha nce to be reported “as if people matter”.

But oligarchic control of the media (as also of government, of course) make the population tools of businesss, and remove the knowledge necessary for outrage.

  5. Who would have thought that market forces coupled with stubborn American ignorance/arrogance would prove to be more dangerous to the survival of the planet than nuclear weapons ? Americans have always claimed to have ‘saved the world’ in WWII. I guess they have come to believe that they own it now. In fact when you look at it the military itself has fallen under the influence/power of big business. And big business doesn’t give a damn about anything but the bottom line. Even in the face of certain death. High rollers live dangerously – unfortunately they live dangerously for all of us on this planet, not just themselves.

    • Bear in mind the creed of the Kleptocrats who are engineering all this (aided by some really unfortunate and so easily exploitable “features” in the wetware programming of the rest of us): “Apres nous le deluge,” or in the argot of what we call “Wall Street,” “IBG-YBG” (“I’ll be gone — you’ll be gone”). Because there are no consequences for predatory and parasitic behaviors that threaten the rest of us and even the “posterity” of these creatures (not, unfortunately, their “posteriors,”) and they can take the attitude that they are immune, for their lifetimes, can get away with all that crap (along with their “people:” who ride along like little remoras), and what are us mopes going to do to them? trash their corpses or ashes? Deface their monuments?

  7. “Bad education, populist politics, emotional attachment to a particular kind of consumerism” what I sense is the lack sense for history and time. In my present world view americans believe that the US has always had automobiles and cheap fossil fuels and therefore they are entitled by their creatore to always have automobiles, airline travel etc.

The story of the US really started with the industrial revolution, driven by plentiful cheap fossil fuels.

And George Washington crossed the Delaware in a boat driven by three Mecury 500 outboards, the painter just didn’t show that, and his white chargers travelled in a horse trailer towed by a Hummer. Like wsie never shown :))

Sorry for the snark but it’s the season.
