Mulla

MULLA. A Persian form used for the Arabic Maulawi, “a learned man, a scholar.”
In the Ghiyasu ‘l-Lughah. it is said that a learned man is called a Mulla because he is ‘filled” with knowledge; from mala’, “to fill.”
