Christianism and Christianist are archaic English words. Milton uses Christianism in the sense of 'the Christian world'.
In the last ten years some writers have started to use Christianist for Christian fundamentalist, by analogy with Islamist. The short Wikipedia article on 'Christianism' quotes Andrew Sullivan from June 1, 2003:
"I have a new term for those on the fringes of the religious right who have used the Gospels to perpetuate their own aspirations for power, control and oppression: Christianists. They are as anathema to true Christians as the Islamists are to true Islam."
And the Urban Dictionary has this: "A member of the Christian faith who seeks to use a religion of peace and tolerance for political and personal gain."
YouTube has lots of Abdel Halim Hafez, original performances plus more recent remixes. It seems he is still quite popular, but I did not know of him.
I appreciate these windows into Middle Eastern cultures that you provide us; the American media is woefully deficient in these matters. The Beeb is one of the few English language outlets that actually pays attention to cultures other than their own.
I signed Senator Tom Udall's petition against this policy of sending arms to the Syrian rebels. Then I contacted my other New Mexico Senator (Heinrich) and my Representative (Lujan-Grisham) and ask them if they would stand with Tom on this matter. Haven't heard back yet.
I am hoping we can get some pushback from Congress on this. After all, they control the purse strings.
"An independent organization of leading scientists and journalists researching and reporting the facts about our changing climate and its impact on the American public."
This is very interesting technology, but even at 100% efficiency solar conversion will never deliver the necessary amount of energy for commercial aviation. And I do mean never. Do the math.
The upper surface area of a 747 is approximately 1500 square meters. Insolation provides about 1.4kW per square meter. So that's a little over 2,000 kW.
According to Wikipedia, the average power consumption of a 747 is 140MW. That's seventy times the available solar power, even at an unrealistic 100% efficiency.
Commercial aviation requires liquid fuel or an as yet to be invented energy source with a comparable energy density.

Lovely. I sent this to an editor friend who already knows this history but will appreciate the presentation.
This is also an excellent source of climate information and news:
