British Pathe | —

“Footage from 1915 of Constantinople, in the Ottoman empire (now Istanbul, Turkey), as the allies approach the city during World War One.

Tracking shot on the water (Bosporus straits), moving to left. We pass many old buildings, Hagia Sophia, as well as other churches and mosques with domes, minarets, etc. Low wall all along water’s edge. Tracking shot moving to right of Turkish naval ships passing in other direction, heavy metal gunboat, then very long low ship. M/S Turkish flag with city and hills in background. Tracking shot on water again. Many ships in foreground and background. L/S large sailing ship at anchor, small steamboat passes in foreground, large steamship in distance.”
