Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks spoke out during a London show on the eve of the war in Iraq, saying “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.”
When media reports about the concert got back to the United States, country radio stations across the U.S. pulled them from circulation, with radio network giant Cumulus banning the Dixie Chicks from its more than 250 local stations.
President Bush: “The Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say … they shouldn’t have their feelings hurt just because some people don’t want to buy their records when they speak out. … Freedom is a two-way street. ”
MLK was very outspoken against the Vietnam War and I surely would have strongly opposed Obama's drone strikes. Also while in the White House, Bill Clinton pardoned well over 100 people. So did President Bush. To date, Obama has pardoned less than two dozen and commuted even fewer sentences. In 2012 the only one he pardoned was a turkey. Really he couldn't find one victim of injustice? The criminal justice system and the drug wars are the most clear display of domestic racism in our time, and despite his own drug history Obama has done nothing to challenge them. In fact his DEA has done the opposite.
Just saw this speech and loved it. To see the GOP cheering for ending wars, bringing the troops home and ending Gitmo was great. Remember Romney wants to double down on all this. Listen to speech again. He really wasn't kind to Ronmey and Ryan. The best he said was that they can come along and Romney was a quote unquote stellar businessman. Then he had the crowd cheering against lawyers being president which includes both Obama and Romney was priceless. The ultimate subterfuge.
Depends on how you count unemployment. Standard unemployment numbers leave out shortterm discouraged workers. U-6 numbers are much higher than U-3. If you include long term discourage workers it's even worse.
I'm certainly open to new evidence, but there is a serious problem here. When doing an experiment it's important to set out what measurements you are going to use before you collect the data. If you choose your measurement afterwards it's too easy to cherry pick and manipulate.
It's really discouraging that sites defending global
warming are blacking out the data from accepted sources that shows a decade long halt in warming. (See article published in 2010, with data only through 2000 http://www.skepticalscience.com/broken-hockey-stick.htm )
Juan really love your commentary on the Middle East, but I have to take you to task for showing a chart of a secondary marker, rising CO2, rather than actually temperature, which has flattened this decade. http://mises.org/daily/5892/The-Skeptics-Case
"Last week there was another escalation when Ahmadinejad was quoted depicting Khamenei as dictator, and implicitly calling for his removal."
What exactly did he say?

Considerable data suggests that about 0.5 C has occurred. But by many measurements accepted by scientist, this warming trend is abating rather than accelerating. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Enso-global-temp-anomalies.png . It is certainly good to be conservative about how we pollute. The issue I have is the certainty with which some claim warming will continue to catastrophe. Most changes eventually reach an equilibrium and considerable data suggests this may be happening.
