Hi Professor--What's the difference between a BSA and a SOFA? Are the outcomes for the long-term different, or is a BSA a temporary stopgap measure preceding a SOFA? Thanks for any clarification or pointing me in the direction to find more out on my own.
I agree with you Professor Cole, I too am amazed at how passive we are in the face of this egregious intrusion of our personal lives. I agree, too, that Senator Feinstein has been at the forefront of allowing these agencies to run unfettered over the rights of citizens in the name of national security.
As alarming as this spying on citizens is (simply calling it a collection of metadata is creepily Orwellian), it's even more alarming that, if what the Senator says is true, the CIA has actively been working to subvert the investigation and then intimating potential criminal charges against the staff, is mind-boggling and very scary.
My question for you Professor Cole goes: Despite the mountain of hypocrisy imbedded in Senator Feinstein's speech, is it not better that she stood up and made this outrageous and illegal conduct known? Surely the Senator had to know, in making this speech that she would be told of the utter hypocrisy of her speech. It truly is ironic. But if not her, who?
Not to quibble, but, if I had edited, I would have struck out the line equating the recall in California and the current events in Egypt. There's nothing similar, and, as an attempted analogy, it does not aid in understanding the events that led to Morsi's downfall.
