I am not concerned that his comment is printed but its content needs to be addressed. ISIL/ISIS is largely censored in the West and the reasons for American involvement almost certainly have nothing to do for concern with Iraqi human rights. Isil publishes with beautiful graphics in Arabic, I have their annual report but I cannot read it. It needs to be translated into English and Posted. I will post here or mail if there is any interest in this. Even if they are the modern day Nazis we need to know what they say and think about their own actions and deeds. We may decide they are totally reprehensible but lets see this from their own words.
There are three main disasters which are not much discussed which are part of the current state of disasters.
1. People talk about this as if its a government problem but in fact much of the original data collection is private, it may be stored forever and being held by for profit companies it can be used as a source of Blackmail, to bring politicians down, divorce settlements, job scrutiny ... etc. Thom Hartman, remarks the Revelations of Eliot Spitzer's sex with a prostitute while showed a childish and hypocritical took place in part because of such a paid inquiry. Similar may have been true with Gereral Petreus's affair and resignation from the CIA. This universal surveillance makes possible the destruction of careers by email records. While people will be more careful going forward the destruction of privacy in part means the destruction of competence.
2. Government Officials are forced to lie in Public because of Gag orders which could send them to jail if they tell the truth. Given this is the case it is prudent to assume the worst and that government pronouncements will be lies unless independently collaborated especially in politics. Capitalist Efficiency depends upon trust and trust has been destroyed in the U.S.
3. Foreign Governments notably Germany no longer will have any confidence in the U.S. All docuyments and communications will be slowed as everyone dealing with the U.S. will encrypt and decrypt everything. Wasting time and effort.
4. The vast Billions which can be spent in the U.S. on Surveillance are badly needed for other projects. The NSA doesn't need the data capacity to store 100 years worth of data. Yes this is getting cheaper and cheaper but it is still an enormous waste of money. Nobody wants terrorist attacks but do we want 50,000 auto deaths. We are fast becoming a third world country and will shortly lag behind China, Brasil and Russia in infrastructure and primary and secondary education. Its like we spent all of our money and effort fixing wear and tear on our dollar bills. Terrorism ranks with bathtub deaths in a 10 year period. We can save many times the lives and improve standards drastically by taking the monies spent on terrorism and researching driver free motor vehicles.
I listended to Juan Cole and Amy Goodman on Democracy Now and Unfortunately their was some misinformation in their post. While it is true that TV on Cable carrying U.S. news are for the most part is not worth watching period having in general virtually no foreign news and no foreign correspondents anywhere the internet provides a rich source of Foreign TV. AlJazeera streams 24 hours a day on Livestation.com. Also French 24 carried at least in Boston has decent coverage of foreign events as does the BBC. There is a streaming version of BBC World News. Even CNN International when foreign coverage is broadcast is better. Both French 24 and Al Jazeera had detailed coverage of Tunisia. Still not explained anywhere is what forced Ben Ami to leave. Undoubtedly it was the generals of his own Army who said they would not support him or so it was rumored.
