Let us all note that this is NOT "at random" but based on a grading system for expendibility of passengers. (quote from The Guardian) "United Airlines said on Monday that after nobody agreed to voluntarily give up their seats, airline representatives chose four passengers to leave the plane at random based on ticket class, frequent flier status and check-in time. ")
Also, note, the term "overbooked" does not apply. United actually wanted to kick off 4 passengers to get a flight crew to Louisville... Interesting use of words to attempt to obfuscate their culpability...
(Oh, and they totatlly ignore their lack of treating the doctor's bloody medical trauma before he managed to return to the plane, where many passengers noted that he was acting dazed...)
I understand that the refugee families on planes to the US who were in transit when Trump signed the edict were taken into detention when the planes landed.
Our church has been working intesively with a 7-member refugee family since June arrival--after 12 YEARS in a camp--where 4 of the kids were born... I cannot IMAGINE the cruelty of doing this to these detained people at this point. It beggars belief.
As of Friday, the Southern Poverty Law Center had 201 such "incidents" reported, per an article in their Hatewatch section... I wonder how many were not reported to them... The minister at church this a.m. recounted a nasty little bit of harrassment reported by a friend--a professor in St. Paul whose student was scared out of a coffee shop. As part of the church service, you could come up front & pick up a safety pin--a growing symbol of showing you're a person who will stand up for someone suffering the newly rampant harrassment of minorities now under threat...Very dark times, with tons of work ahead of us..
sigh...
Thanks for this column, Dr. Cole. I sorely needed it.
It goes nicely with some Bonhoeffer, too, kind of the moral necessity argument...
Thanks, too, for your constant work on getting deeper info to us--so far beyond the execrable MSM.
Hi and my husband and I read your column daily, also learn a lot from the links. It's good to have you voicing what the execrable lapdog media avoids or skews beyond reality--regarding what's happening mostly in the Middle East, plus climate, plus etc...
(In fact, we wonder if you have been cloned, or possibly have 14 graduate students working around the clock to cover what you do... )
Blessings, thanks.
