cartoonist does realize entire Iraqi army was disbanded, has wholly diff identity now? If anything IS represents Saddam-era command

  2. Yesterday’s Army was a Bathist/Sunni army part of which is now Isis. They seem to fight very well.
The current Army is Shia/Persian. Not very motivated.

    • My understanding was that the officers were all Bathist/Sunni, but that the grunts were mostly Shia.

  3. I am also remembering the observation that the US had more generals than Al Qaida members in Iraq before 2003.

The US had more Seventeen Star Generals than Al Qaida members in Iraq before 2003. AQI/ISIS/ISIL/Daesh/Whatever they’re called this week is entirely and completely a creation of US policies in Iraq post invasion.

Remarkably like Al Qaida is entirely and completely a creation of US policies in Afghanistan in the 80’s…

  5. All and every arab army’s have been disasters In modern times…there is nothing more useless …however the off shoots can and do fight…Hamas ..Hezbollah ..Isis ..and in Yemen …also individual tribes can show fight …it seems that when you try to form a modern army…it for what ever reason…it fails

    • I know Jim Webb personally and believe he gave the best quote: Israel is a 4th rate army fighting 7th rate armies. He was a journalist in the ME and saw them in action (like me). Once you see the IDF in action you realize this fact. Like Webb, I also served in Vietnam.
