Apparently these clowns overlook the fact that a military coup could very well be accompanied by a crackdown, if not outright prohibition, on gun ownership.
Iraq, for the most part, has been an artificial state cobbled together after World War I. Saddam Hussein was able to provide security through brute force.
A fundamental question is: how much longer will Iraq devolve into a failed state before it fragments into separate states?
Even after the last American soldier comes home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. will continue to bear the long-term costs of caring for its soldiers. Where is the money to attack Iran supposed to come from?
If Iran really wanted to devious and humiliate the U.S or Israel they'd first convince on or both countries that Iran was developing a nuclear weapons program (when it reality it wasn'). A subsequent pre-emptive strike on what turn out to be baseless claims of developing a nuclear weapon would do more to damage and humiliate the U.S. and Israel, than any attack or proxy attack (e.g. Hezbollah) could do.
I realize such a scenario may border on the conspiratorial, but then again there were ultimately no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when the U.S. invaded a few years back.

Be careful what you wish for.

I wonder whether there will there come a point where sustained unemployment will force a change in austerity policies, for better or for worse.

Former Secretary of Defense said that anyone thinking of starting another war in the Middle East should have their head checked.
Although Iran is more on the periphery of the Middle East, I think the same could be said about anyone wanting to start a war with Iran.
