"A blogger is an independent observer, a citizen journalist."
Uh, no. Not necessarily. That type of blogging is just a fraction of what's out there. What you should have said is, "An independent observer, a citizen journalist, may express him- or herself through blogging."
I've been blogging for years, and it only very rarely has anything to do with politics. I'm a writer. Thousands of writers and authors are also bloggers. Forgive me for being picky, but I'm tired of "blogger" being hijacked by political writers.
Possibly OT, but every time I hear the Libyan revolutionaries described as a "rag-tag army," I have two thoughts:
1) They didn't take up weapons until Gaddafi started shooting them. Most of these people are ordinary citizens, who in that regard remind me mightily of the...
2) "Rag-tag" Continental Army under George Washington, which never would have won without the intervention of the French!
Thank you. My only fear is that the Left will succeed in stopping what's been begun.
I can't bear to visit any of the sites in my formerly beloved lefty blogosphere for all the foaming at the mouth. The conflation of Libya with Iraq, etc. is nearly universal. Michael Moore in particular has completely lost his mind. I keep thinking of how France helped the American colonies in their war for independence, and also the Spanish Civil War you reference. Here we have a chance to be the "good guys," and they'd have us walk away in shame and cowardice.
There's a lot of that "willfully blind" stuff going around, Professor. Kudos to you for telling the truth. I'm 65 years old, and this is the first time in my life I've supported military intervention.
You know, I went to Sunday school too, and Shimkus is full of it: what I remember is that the "promise" was not to unleash another world-destroying FLOOD. And where does this come from? "Won't be water, but fire next time." Which we seem to be well on the way to experiencing...
At least he will be there to veto the crazy tea party legislative agenda.
Going wildly optimistic on us, Dr. Cole? 🙂 He hasn't directly vetoed anything yet that I can recall. Personally, I wouldn't count on the above one bit, though I hope you're right.

These people are the future. We need to help.
Nor is it news to most women. I dare anyone to read that to my wife.

That dying bird? An "Obamabird," because he opted for news management instead of bringing the full resources of the federal government to bear.
