And once again, R.A. Wilson is proven to be prophetic: he defined religious wars as "an argument as to who has the better invisible friend." Please, can we not move past this archaic, medieval attitude? All signs point to "no."
As much as I enjoyed this post and strongly believe in the evidence presented, the "true believer" does not use logic. It's simply "Because God/Yahweh/Allah said so!" You will never convince them otherwise, which is a shame. My only hope is that future generations abandon a reliance on myth and fable to explain the "meaning of life."
Sadly, I will tell you that this "respect mah authoritay" attitude is far too prevalent amongst certain members of the Border Patrol/ICE workforce. I can verify this as I once worked for the old INS; we used to call these guys "cowboys. Not professional and definitely not warranted, but what the heck; we can afford to insult our neighbors, can't we?
Thank you for sharing this talk. I was blown away by her rationality, humor and understanding. While I have never attempted to read the Q'uran, I am glad Ms. Hazleton has, and was so willing to share her impressions and opinions of the book. Thanks, Professor, and keep up the good work.
Thank you again for injecting rational thinking and facts into the debate. Bolton is a loathesome, immoral man, who has been accorded magical powers, I think due mainly to his moustache. He, Jeffrey Goldberg and a bunch of other wingnuts are still living in the PNAC dream world, where Liberty and Democracy triumph over the evil Caliphate. Please, let's just stop attributing any weight to the pronouncements of these insane people. Keep up the good work, Professor.
