This was one more episode of The Great & Proud Speaker giving us pablum. There is no way to set in motion a 3 year plan for leaving a war - this is no plan, this is a political ploy. Where/how does he see those lights of peace way, way over there? How dare we/he say that in three years WE will give to Afghans authority over their country?

      Kabuki.

As I have written many times, pols are usually pols; Republicans in our era are not interested in truth. They and most Dems are interested in power, as unbridled as possible, as Obama is in doing as he wishes in Yemen and in building the new "secret" base in the Middle East.

I have written about Weiner's bizarre, extreme support of anything Israel's government does, regardless of Weiner's otherwise liberal, pro-human views. He has a blind spot here, or is dishonestly political due to the demographic of his district - either way, his views on Israel-Palestine are repulsive and dishonest.

And we can't even get al Jazeera on our cable system.

Our journalism is, with a few great exceptions, shallow and un-serious.

I was very impressed with Imam Qaradawi's (translated) sermon in which he called for the revolution to continue peacefully, and he declared that Egyptians are all one, not divided by sectarianism. What a breakthrough to call on Coptic Christians to pray then & there with Muslims (all being brothers and sisters).

al Ahram.com had excellent story re same events. What a breakthrough in relations; I can imagine the relief felt by Copts & Muslims.
