This is a basic and inelegant thought, but find a way to require military action to be directly paid for via taxation. I.E. if we as a nation want to engage in a police action in whatever country, taxes go up correspondingly. Then, the citizens will respond.
Can you explain the rumors as to why Iraq would be joining an anti-Iran alliance? Is Iraq's Shiite-dominated government no longer on good terms with Iran?
Regarding the Voter ID case, I think it's important to view the case in the context of other past and future cases. With the striking of the Voting Rights act, Alabama moved forward with its voter ID law, and then closed almost all the DMVs where Black populations are most congregated. In Texas, a case has moved to the US Supreme Court arguing that representatives should be apportioned based on registered voters, not the number of people in a district.
To me, this is a clear piece-by-piece strategy by racist America to repeal the rights of non-Whites, to this point aided and abetted by the Court.
As another commenter pointed out, we in the west, from the catbird seat, have a tendency to expect immediate democratic transitions while overlooking our own rocky histories.
It only took the US 80 some years and the bloodiest war in the nation's history to start ironing out some of the major kinks in this democratic experiment.
Beyond this, those in America who make this commentary likely do not consume media from the Middle East, Arab nations or North African nations that would cover local "protests." Further, the lack of media coverage by US media does not mean that something doesn't take place.

Are these Shiite militias aligned more so with conservative/hard line factions in Iran as opposed to the Rouhani administration?
