I believe Mr. Truman did not realize that he had given an unlimited iron fist to the unseen rulers of his country. He even remarked that it was the worst thing he had done. J.F.K. fired Allen Dulles the head of the C.I.A. and was determined to take any military action away from them and put it under the "Joint Chiefs". He intended to "smash the C.I.A. into a thousand pieces". Who got smashed?
When Mr. Obama was elected his first visits were to the C.I.A. and the Joint Chiefs. Was that just to tell them he was "onside" as an insurance policy?
The Soviet dissident Yevgeny Yevtushenko said "when the truth is replaced by silence, the silence itself is a lie" . To watch the government of the most powerful nation in the world listen in silence, or rabid applause to the chronic liar Netanyahu is disgusting. This has nothing to do with Israel's "right to exist". When the Jewish people were granted a state by the U.N. in 1948, the rights of the people who lived there were extinguished!
Excuse me, that comment about since the end of WWII is incorrect. I recommend the book "War is a Racket" by Marine Corp General, Smedley Butler for a fundamental record of events.
I acknowledge that Obama has continued, and even increased the vicious assault on people throughout that area. This interference in the affairs of other countries has been going on since WWII regardless of which party was in power. It is anti American for any country to want to use the resources of their country for the good of it's people.
I am encouraged to see that the men and women that actually put their lives on the line see the difference between actually defending their country, and serving as an enforcer for the imperialist designs of Bush Cheney.
If the government of my country hadn't recklessly cut off relations with Iran Canada may have been able to provide some useful information in the negotiations with them. Unfortunately Mr, Harper was more interested in pleasing Bibi.
than contributing to an agreement.
Keystone XL should be denied simply because it is the dirtiest oil on the planet. Some producers in the U.S. have already applied for export permits as they have excess supply. If they have excess supply, then they have no need of more Canadian oil. Canada itself has no need of an increase in tar sands production.
If the U.S. and Iran can get their heads together, the whole world would breathe easier, and I believe Iran could ramp up oil production with far less pollution than tar sands.
If Mr. Harper tries to put oil tankers right in the middle of the pristine B.C. coast; there will be blood in the streets!!
It is only since Stephan Harper achieved his majority government that his true colours have been revealed. Removing the government subsidy for political parties, and putting it back in the hands of the corporate interests where it belongs according to him!!
Canada has no need to double or triple the production from the tar sands. Doubling the size of the Trans-Mountain pipeline is one thing. The pipeline to Kitimat is something else. The disaster to the B.C. salmon is of no consideration to Ottawa. Just like the disaster to the Grand Banks was not.
Stephan Harper makes a state visit to Israel to further lick the boots of it's terrorist head of state! This seems to be his way of seeking the approval of A.I.P.A.C. to further his political ends.
For the first time in my life I am ashamed that my country's government unequivically supports a country that practises terrorism, and endangers the peace of the whole world. The goverment of Canada in the 1960's insisted that the aparthied state of South Africa could not be part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Now are government wholly accepts the aparthied government of Israel??
Rob you are absolutely correct in your assessement of the only supporters of Israel are the U.S. and Israel; however they have been joined by a third member. The neo-con government of Canada unconditionally supports Israel no matter who they attack.

I think you have a good handle on what the U.S. congress could do Hunter, but would A.I.P.A.C. allow it?
