I would also sue the Taliban in court for taking refuge in area schools like in Miran Shah.
Please give me some context also; carpet-bombing in Cambodia this is not. But explain the dilemma: the enemy hides in mosques and schools - what do you do?
Prof Cole, I don't want to irritate you. I like to read contacts with different views and hopefully we can disagree on some topics. Thanks for letting me learn with you, T.
Good point; who was the smart guy who thought you can get good information by torturing? I can't believe Jose Rodriguez has the nerve to publish a book. Now comes the movie...T
Prof. Cole, you're the hardest working analyst I know (seven days a week?). In this post: I can't believe that mask made it to Egypt - are they going by the movie or by the history of plotters who wanted to bomb the English Parliament (17th c.e.)? Thanks for covering the region, because TV news has become more useless than usual. I'll make my donation. -T.
After listening to Mr. Netanyahu's and watching his cartoon description, I prefer this presentation. We can handle complexity; thank you.-T
Interesting 3 to 8min: the Iranian Navy has notified IAEA that it will enrich uranium (to 20-80%) for propulsion which is completely legal as long as they prove...(assume that means for ships).
Q to self: I don't believe the US Navy will like Iran having access to world's shipping lanes; Israel will be the least of their problems. The issue is no longer about energy production which Iran needs terribly (they can at under 20%) but opening a new set of considerations (my speculation).
At least I understand the constant reference to "20%". Thank you.
That Herman Sheer (sp?) looks like an interesting guy; he's smart because he anticipates the problems (34min). I've never heard of 100% energy through renewables. I've been reading about Boone Pickens and his wind energy plan which at most will cover 20% ("the US is the Saudi Arabia of Wind Energy"). In the 70's, we lived in a solar house which didn't impress me, but like one of the spokesmen says, solar has come a long way ($30/unit of energy to $3 now).
also: Jordanian officials always impress me(32min). I didn't know they will take part in Desertec. The EU and the Sahara desert I've come across in EU brochures.
Thanks Dr. Cole for posting another interesting video (wouldn't have found it on my own). -T.
Thanks Dr. Cole for mentioning the video. I rely on your blog more than ever.
interesting:
-Marshall's overview of qualities which makes a good American general. (15:45min). Also the reference to American way of war and doctrine were helpful.
-Firing Generals (before rotations were implemented in 1951) did not mean the end of a career(22:00min).
Good quote by Marshall when Congressmen complained of Generals being fired: "[It's a democracy; enlisted men count for more]." Thanks, T.
It is terrible.
I would also sue the Taliban in court for taking refuge in area schools like in Miran Shah.

We need to hear more from infantrymen at the decision table. Thanks for posting. Many questions; though I will ask only two:
Q: Did the war being on 9/11 or earlier with attacks in VA in '93, World Trade in '94, Embassy in Kenya, USS Cole?
Q: How would you prevent Afg fall into AQ/Taliban control again funded by opium trade and resources to attack Europe and the US?
Thanks for good comments and post; helpful. -T

When did Pakistan learn its guilt-ridden language? (From some pretentious PR firm?)
I assumed Pakistan would run out of money by August; how does it manage its current account till now? Thanks, T.

Helpful comments (here and above); thanks,T.
It's not easy to cover unfolding events; thanks for that "note to self." -T
