The first casualty of war is the truth. Why should "the war on terror" be any different? The recent removal of Fernando del Rincon from CNN en Español is a sign that somebody's doing something right...
Coinciding interests don't necessarily make allies. Just the fact that Iran also want to see ISIS defeated helps. If the US was serious about getting rid of Assad, it would still be necessary to take care of the more immediate threat, ISIS, first...
I must arrest the basic premise of the article: I don't dispute historical facts, but it is also a fact that Iran has great influence in the hot spots Iraq, Syria, Gaza and Lebanon.
However, it´s not about empire building, but national interests. That's true for the USA, China and Russia as well.

Regime change seems to be needed in so many places...
As for US refusing to interact with Iran, can that have any connection with how US domestic politics work?
That would be a welcome change, accepting the fact that Iran has consideable influence in the region, using that for something positive for a change...
It´s quite amazing, given the general US view of the Israel - Palestine conflict, that a someone who has worked so close to the top of the US govt is describing so honestly how the state of Israel was created.
Also it´s becoming very clear how disatrous it is to simply pass on the same treatment one has received to someone else. The Palestinians, beginning with those who sold Palestinian land to the Jews, don´t impress me much either. Who in ther right mind would let teenage boys throw rocks at the IDF?
I thought that most scientists are too smart to be bothered with politics and/or religion, but what do I know? A true scientist won´t be distracted anyway, so a little dabbling in other things shouldn't be a problem...
Tey´re at it with the sanctions game again, over Ukraine. History shows very clearly that sanctions don´t work against "the intended target". Ordinary people suffer, and good middle class lives are destroyed.
Sanctions and wars happening over and over again are very clear evidenceof insanity of humanity and that it still has an awful lot to learn...
Most of the responses here have been unusully balanced for this type of forum. Yes, the official narrative hypocrisy is all too evident. Is it too much to hope tat some positive change will happen eventually?

Have you noticed how stable oil prices have been lately? The US will NEVER let IS take the main oil producing areas...
More than 6 decades ago the USA sowed the wind, and the whirlwind has been blowing for almost 4 decades. Nowadays all fault is being heaped on Iran...
