Pet peeve of mine:
"Andhra Pradesh alone plans to set up a solar power plant that will generate 1 gigawatt of electricity annually"
What does that mean? Watt is a rate like mph is a rate. My car goes 70mph annually! But more likely it goes 10000miles annually. 1 gigawatt hour (or year maybe, big difference).
Hi Juan,
Have you kept track of local installation costs and returns?
I'm in A2 city limits, 500 ft2 south facing roof available (more if willing to cut a white pine), and a bank trying to shove money at me at 3%.
A little more info would be welcome. This article spoke only of demand, and said nothing of supply. It isn't like the communities used every available unshaded location for production, or invested in efficiency. They decided to buy electricity from a producer that says it is green.
If what he said last night is to be believed, he likes and needs rules. They just have to be the right ones. I suspect something along the lines of heads I win, tails you lose.
Assume the surface temperature were to be steady for the next century.
Would there be ice formation or melting?
Would the subsurface temperature rise or fall?
Nathan, surface temperature as Juan stated is not the whole story. The surface sits on top of a huge thermal mass, as he stated, centuries to heat. The volume of that mass is a function of the temperature of that mass, not its surface temperature.
That by eyeballing surface temperature data from 20-10 years ago there is a clear rise, vs eyeballing 10-0 years ago, it is less so, is not a convincing argument that global warming is not a problem.
Work for a system that allows for 3rd party candidates. Some sort of run-off would be fine. Until then, it only makes sense if you believe the difference between Obama and Romney is small.
It does seem that when you have micros that would compete with an old school supercomputer but take only one stamp to mail, it should be possible to control a team of large kites to be useful.
Doesn't a refund mean that they estimated and paid more taxes than what they calculated at filing time? It could mean something unsavory has happened, or not.
Does someone have a link to some of the numbers? Say the 2.5T to Citi. What I've seen doesn't add up to that.
Our residential neighborhood of 100 houses is contemplating common geothermal heating/cooling. I'm doubtful it will actually happen because initial costs. The proposals (from students at the U) aren't done yet, so we'll see.
Enough people have gone 'off the grid' that the formula is well understood. First you work on efficiency of energy usage, then do that again a few more times. Then you work out the energy production and storage issues.
Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.
Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us.
Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
Peasant 1: Burn them.
Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches?
Peasant 1: More witches.
Peasant 2: Wood.
Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn?
Peasant 3: ...because they're made of... wood?
Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her.
Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone?
Peasant 1: Oh yeah.
Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water?
Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!
Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water?
Peasant 1: Bread.
Peasant 2: Apples.
Peasant 3: Very small rocks.
Peasant 1: Cider.
Peasant 2: Gravy.
Peasant 3: Cherries.
Peasant 1: Mud.
Peasant 2: Churches.
Peasant 3: Lead! Lead!
King Arthur: A Duck.
Sir Bedevere: ...Exactly. So, logically...
Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.
Sir Bedevere: And therefore...
Peasant 2: ...A witch!
Please elaborate. It isn't obvious to me how the obstruction would have any effect on human rights one way or the other.

If Mitt will fix fusion to work cold, then I will vote for him.
"That the West Bank Palestinians would flood their own country with weapons and use them to attack nuclear Power, Israel, makes no sense to me."
If I get in a fight with my office mate, I might consider a hand gun, but the safety pin would likely stay in the grenade.
federal spending accounts for 39% GDP. How is 13% paying his fair share? (not to mention monstrous 401k (and swiss) sums that evade any tax)
That is quite a big rock! Give me a fulcrum (and a few GWh) and I will lift it.
maybe nice weather is a trigger for these sorts of things.

Terrible optics, but that the football stadium is 4 times the size of the basketball arena makes it look worse.

27 Quads for US transportation
38 Quads for US electricity generation about 10% green. There is room for it to grow beyond dwarfedness.

I would join the boycot, but like many I'm sure, am not willing to listen to his show to figure out who to boycot.

1. closer to 900,000 homes @ 60 amps.
2. my house uses 5 amps average. It may be slightly under average, but not that much.
