Marcel is correct,not because illegal immigration has no victim (we all know many official "crimes" do not), but because lack of documentation is officially a civil, not a criminal offense. The only penalty provided by law is deportation. This as it should be in a free society. The long, inhumane detention of *suspected* offenders in private, for-profit prisons (euphemism: "detention centers") is *not* as it should be.

If I'm not mistaken, Nixon boosted his young career, while on the House Un-American Activities committee, on the coattails of Senator Joe McCarthy. It was only after Tricky Dick became vice-president that Ike made him renounce his pal, when some war buddies of Eisenhower's were ensnared.
As I read the linked article, it said that "an army personnel carrier fired a volley in the air" to disperse a crowd of 50 who were banging on the windows of the hotel where foreign journalists had been "bundled" after being attacked by an angry mob. This does not sound as ominous as the "Heavy Artillery Barrage" of the headline or your link, intimating the army was "warning" and threating to attack all of the protesters.
