Compared with Trump, the old team of Barry Goldwatwer and Curtis Le May seem paragons of caution.

This looks like fine news for cyclists who find helmets bulky and cumbersome. Ditch the helmet and just get stoned.

The IS armies no longer seem guerilla armies since they did not capture Mosul by planting IEDs on the highways.

Deprive the victim of sufficient Gas, Water and Electricity and then call the victim dirty. After that, use hygiene and disease
metaphors to create an existential threat.

The Middle East is the debris of misguided diplomacy carried out by rapacious powers calling themselves Democracies.

One might ask if there are dead birds or rats in the area.
These could be put in tupperware containers and possibly
transported to areas with access to laboratory equipment,
or even sent to UN inspectors in their hotel.

One could imagine that privatization in the UK is even worse. The UK is smaller than the USA and because of the Monarchy there are all sorts of social networks serving 'Queen and Country' where individuals can meet at invitation only meetings to discuss the sharing of franchises.

The USA itself is the result of privatization in the age of Elizabeth I. Exploitation of the colonies was divided out between private companies while England itself made efforts to control the carrying trade.

Disruption of the carrying trade of rivals was itself privatized whereby British pirate captains were given licence to loot and plunder state controlled Spanish and French ships. These pirates were of course called 'Privateers'.

In the Old World British exploitation companies were responsible for various famines in India, and the opium trade in China.

    • antony goddard 08/09/2013 at 5:18 am

      Where is our Amsterdam ?
There are countries with piracy (in publishing) as a common practice in South Asia and the Far East. Bangla Desh or Taiwan may have editors willing to publish books with no credits to anyone (No Name Books).

Holding up anti-drug operations as a beneficial example of co-operation is ironic. It is prohibition policies in both CIS and USA which drive up prices and make drug trafficking
      so profitable.

But there is a level of 'Christian' identity politics in Europe. Christian Democrats in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands may have 'Christian' in their name, but there is a world of difference between them and political groups which call themselves 'Christian' in the USA.

  • A Century of America's Imperial Deep State (McCoy)
    • antony goddard 07/15/2013 at 12:30 pm

I have been reading about the 'deep state' concept as applied to places like Egypt and Turkey, but I wonder how this could be applied to the United Kingdom. Secret data collection in
the former British Empire goes back as far as the mapping of
high mountains such as Everest and K2 (Goodwin Austen) not
to mention Saudi Arabia's Wadi Hanifa. Closer to home, the British must have set up radio message interception since
the days of Marconi, and spies and informers were present
in Ireland since the mid 1800s. More recent developments since the days of George Orwell are a matter of public record, but it is only in the last month that we know that the Lawrence family has been targeted by police spies since the death of their son in a racist attack during the early 1990s.

I seem to remember that Syria took on the role of 'friendly policeman' during the Lebanese Civil war (1975-90).
