We've always known the current "Republican" Party was based on hypocrisy, but this essay shows how profound that unfortunate condition is.
This is why we donate to a creative independent scholar-to deepen what it is we think we already know. And, of course, to learn anew.
Your post seems to illustrate your first sentence. That Jeb Bush is smart and relatively qualified is truly a mythical vision. Of course, it's important to never underestimate one's opponent, but you're ready to "get him some better advisors" and throw him in the game. No, thank you.
Currently reading "Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel"-when you begin to comprehend the particular kind of hatred towards the Palestinians that has been carelessly brewed by the Israeli right, you begin to see who Israel's greatest enemy really is.
Israel's actions are neither rational nor justified. Why allow yourself to get twisted up in Netanyahu's dishonest rationalizations and B-movie acting?
Israeli leaders are proving that THEY are the ones who never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Their unending commitment to confrontation makes these leaders Israel's most dangerous enemy.
The "reasons" of our "rulers" are truly hard to fathom. For the longest time, I've assumed that Israel was our base ('al-qaeda' in Arabic, oddly enough) in the Middle East, providing the West with access to oil fields. That would explain the cynicism that many Israelis express about us. Is there some other not so easily grasped reason why American politicians suddenly turn zombie-like when the topic of Israel comes up?
So-called "American" duplicity has oftentimes been the result of Israeli influence in American politics. Numerous officials in the Bush administration had dual citizenship. Your attempt to generalize everything into a cloud of misdeeds, that vanishes into thin air as you approach it, is inappropriate to the unfolding tragedy in Gaza.
Let's review. By ignoring the wisdom of Native Americans, settlers missed out on incalculable knowledge about how to live here, leading to innumerable miscalculations and blunders. Slavery? That led directly to racial strife of all forms and types of violence-lying in the street, dying of automatic arms fire is only a slap on the wrist if it's not you. We are currently playing for our role in de-stabilizing Iraq, especially those with PTSD and serious head wounds. What has this to do with Israel, anyway? Comparing tragedies, especially of the moral variety, strikes me as an unwholesome and worthless parlor game. I guess it's hip to spell corporate and Amerika with a "k", but, so what?
Respectfully, the US has paid and continues to pay for those crimes. All oppression of peoples always returns in some form on the head of the oppressor.
Elegantly stated, Juan. No amount of pretense on the part of either Kerry or Obama should re-assure us as to how our political society treats whistleblowers. In fact, this is where "outrageous conspiracy theories" begin, precisely where intelligent men move like zombies and say things they know are not true.
Vanilla Isis! That's a dis-, and a half.
More toxins in the environment + lack of health care = more deaths, and more crime.
Thanks for your thoughts, and warnings concerning Erdogan's motivations.

In today's intellectual atmosphere, so polluted with mis- and dis-information, informed comment can seem simply brilliant.

You're making the assumption that one can easily assume who the author of those incredibly ineffective rocket attacks are.
Reportage and interesting open discussion is what brings me back to this site.

Respectfully again, a mere armchair exercise that seems inappropriate and frankly callous in the context of such slaughter.

A light in the darkest days, a kindred hope that reflects our own. And a neat website.
