Israel has been flying sorties and attacking targets inside Syrian sovereign territory for years, in clear violation of international law.
They just got punched in the nose...and deserve it.
It's just as likely Russian trained Syrians are now operating S-300 anti-aircraft batteries and Electronic Warfare systems.
Note, too, that Tillerson sat on stage next to the war criminal sponsor of "the new Middle East," Condi Rice.
Going by all concepts of international law, US forces in Syrian sovereign territory are invaders and occupiers.
The deeper, more ominous issue here is that rather than spending evenings reading about history, or good governance, or how past presidents have dealt with crises, etc., (basically anything to do with learning how to be a successful political & diplomatic leader), the POTUS (for cryin' out loud) apparently spends his nights surfing twitter and the web for criticism or viewing radical right-wing hate group websites.
It is absolutely not true that 17 intelligence agencies endorsed the Russia hacking dossier. In fact it was four, and their "assessment" (ie, opinion piece) was written by "hand picked" analysts, according to the DNI. To date, their hasn't been any hard evidence released to substantiate the charge.
Excuse me, but in March 2016 Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to rejoin Russia. Western powers (ie, the US) refused to validate the vote but could produce no evidence indicating it was fraudulent. The claim it was held under "military duress" was ludicrous. There were already thousands of soldiers stationed there at Russia's warm water port. They did nothing during the referendum.
Everybody is conveniently forgetting that UN special inspectors for chemical and biological weapons took part in every phase of the Syrian handover. To castigate the Russians for "incompetence" or "collusion" is disingenuous at best, lying propaganda at worst. The UN inspectors declared in late 2016 that all Syrian chemical weapons had been transported out of the country ( some, apparently, on US maritime vessels.)
Perhaps one day Professor Cole could explain in detail how Iran is "destabilizing" the Middle East...according to Mad Dog Mattis and other Pentagon pit bulls.
Trump has nominated or is considering at least three outspoken Iranophobes for military, national security and intelligence leadership.
"The Trumpmen of the Apocalypse"?
It goes beyond having dogs in the fight. Putin stated clearly in his U.N. speech in the Spring that Russia is no longer crippled and will not stand by passively while the U.S. and it's satraps wreak further chaos and destruction in the Middle East and Eurasia.
You wrote: "…continue to fly missions against groups the Russian Federation considers terrorists." Actually, there's a UN Security Council Resolution specifically allowing continual attacks against Daesh and it's component groups. There's also the "cessation of hostilities" agreement that lists those factions who are still fighting. You make it seem as if the Russians are being capricious.
This odious vetting of candidates is likely one result of the ongoing sanctions orchestrated by the US. Any government under threat is certainly going to circle the wagons. Also, it's only a few degrees of magnitude ahead of our own circumscribed presidential races. The Dem and Repub duopoly have rigged the electoral process so thoroughly it's nearly impossible for viable alternative party candidates to make any headway. As for "loyalty to the dictator," in Iran's case it's loyalty to the theocracy, in ours it's fealty to the corporatocracy and current power elite. Who does not think our final nominated candidates have been vetted by the gray suits behind the curtain?

Kosmo, see http://www.thesaker.is, or moonofalabama.org, for good military analyses of the possibilities.
