"...should be run 'like a great American company'."
And what great American company is not a dictatorship, with a board of cronies, all built to richly reward the executives and their minions at the expense of its workers and even its customers?
Legally correct? The law said he should die? The law says that property is more important than life? If laws do not have a moral component, what is the point of law then? Oppression.
Invest in healthcare?! As if we are buying stocks. It is an expense and even having health insurance can cost you a lot (your savings, your home, every asset you might have) should you get sick as the copays leap higher and higher.
Don't count on Senator McCain to do anything other than bloviate. He is a narcissist too and only cares for himself. He has done nothing in his political career for the US or the state that keeps reelecting him.
The chances of a recession are the same with Clinton. The structural changes necessary to avoid yet another catastrophe were not done -- breaking up the big banks, reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act, elimination of tax havens and off-shoring, reforming the IMF and World Bank.
The US is now deporting adoptees because their adoptive parents did not complete their naturalization. This includes Veterans of the US armed forces. They have grown up here, have had social security numbers, driver licenses, gone to our schools and are "assimilated" in every possible way. That's what we should be upset about not 22K white supremacists.
My workplace insurance was switched to United Healthcare, which also dropped out of the ACA, and my co-pays are out of control. Twenty percent of major medical even after a $2600 out-of-pocket costs. My wife's surgery will wipe out my savings and put me in debt for a couple of years minimum. Their supplemental policy was a complete rip-off. I know more than a few military procurement programs that would completely pay for public Healthcare after their cancellation.
Sarah Palin did the same thing but she suffered no consequence for an actual assassination attempt with multiple victims. Evidently you can cry fire in political theater.
Melungeon? Had to look it up. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't borned that way. Get a DNA test. My Western Appalachian roots thought they were part Cherokee (indeed, on my Grandma's side) and my DNA shows it not to be so.
"It appears that, rather on the model of Stalinist cell formation, the Gulen movement has focused on getting its members into key positions in the Turkish government, including the police, army and judiciary, and possibly the intelligence services."
Please read Paul Fussell's essay, "Thank God for the Atom Bomb". He was also a US Army combat veteran. Even an insignificant Imperial Japan was inflicting 7000 casualties a week on the Allies. Rawls must have had a death wish. Ike and MacArthur preferred to win the old fashioned way: military glory - that elusive rainbow that ends in showers of blood (Abe Lincoln).
If you start a war, you get to be a war leader and will be mentioned ad nauseum in the history books. Too bad their legacy will be more like the hapless Roman emperors that dragged Rome into a barbarian nightmare.
"But how do you square circles, especially in a world in which “security” has often enough become a stand-in for whatever intelligence operatives decide to do?"
Just this morning the Obama administration is waving the red flag of immigration reform. Misdirection, me thinks, so that Snowden and mass government domestic spying will drop from the newscycle as we work ourselves into a frenzy over 3% of the population.
A soldier's duty should not be oppression, police work, random terrorism. Ahed Tamimi is brave and fearless to stand against the powers that be.
Considering what happened outside the Turkish Embassy in DC yesterday, the Kurds are going to be betrayed yet again.
As long as the Iraqi PM explains the situation in dollars and devotion to Trump, Kushner will understand.
We already know the US will throw the Kurds under the bus (again).

She just cut out one of Trump's biggest voting blocks in Florida: Cubans!

Yes, the law is always a convenient thing to hide behind (at least when you get to make it).
It cost us the Republic.

Astore, Bacevich, and Wilkerson: these are voices we need to listen to. Thoughtful, analytic, and necessary.
Sarah Palin did the same thing but she suffered no consequence for an actual assassination attempt with multiple victims. Evidently you can cry fire in political theater.
As Captain Kirk once said, "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"

Reminds me of the American Religious Right.
The continuing fruit of colonialism, post-colonialism, and capitalism.
YPJ rocks.

Not a chance she will keep any of these policy positions after the coronation.
Quarter of a million dead Iraqi children because of the Clintons (I read it here). If that is not war, I don't know what is.
When was the last time that actually happened? Back in the real America the neo-cons keep whining for?
Turkey training Kurdish Peshmerga or fighters to confront Daesh / ISIL? That does not seem likely.
I would not be surprised if his trial is put off until after the 2016 Presidential Election, and then Pres. Obama pardons him before the trial.
Khaled Al-Asaad. A true hero. May he rest in peace.
Keeping Iraq whole has not worked out well either. Time to redraw the colonial boundaries. If it's not done peaceably, it will be done violently.
If you start a war, you get to be a war leader and will be mentioned ad nauseum in the history books. Too bad their legacy will be more like the hapless Roman emperors that dragged Rome into a barbarian nightmare.
Gaza should become a free city state, recognized and protected by the UN.
"You're really inciting work" !?
So how did this change happen? Democrats asleep on the job again?
"But how do you square circles, especially in a world in which “security” has often enough become a stand-in for whatever intelligence operatives decide to do?"
Squircles!

Who does the transcription of these videos? It's not very good, accurate, and often comical in how bad it is.
